How to Find a Lawyer

Which lawyer should represent you?

That depends upon the nature of the case and the amount of money involved.

If you are trying to get back a $500 security deposit from your landlord, it may not make sense to spend the money to hire a lawyer, especially if you are willing to take the time and trouble of pursuing the case yourself in small claims court.

On the other hand, if you have been seriously injured and are suing for a large amount of money, you probably should hire a lawyer.

The lawyer may accept your case on a contingency basis, which means he or she will get a predetermined percentage of the money you are awarded. If you do not win your case, the lawyer is not compensated. Other lawyers charge by the hour or agree to a flat fee. Even if you hire a lawyer on a contingency basis, be aware that you generally will be responsible for court costs, such as filing fees. Be sure to get your fee agreement with the lawyer in writing.

If you do decide to hire a lawyer, shop around.

Here's what some people have to say about LegalMatch

"I got 3 responses within the time frame needed for an urgent custody case...If it had not been for LegalMatch I would have been up a creek without a paddle. I intend to use the service again if I have any other legal matters."
      - Cyndie, Seattle

"Regarding your LegalMatch services, I have the highest praise. We received six responses from qualified law firms to take on our case. The process was very economical and friendly for both the attorneys and myself. We would not have met with [LegalMatch attorney] Fred R. if it weren't for LegalMatch, and we are extremely pleased with his management of our litigation."
      - Leonardo, Florida

"Within an hour of presenting my case, I received a call from a well established law office with years of experience. It will take time to resolve my case, but the quick response from the qualified attorney LegalMatch found for me has lifted a lot of pressure off my shoulders. I will be recommending this site to my friends and family. Thank you!"
